Winner of the 2013 UK Critics’ Circle award for Best Independent Dance Company, the London-based BalletBoyz are now in their second generation, featuring an entirely new troupe of promising young, athletic male dancers from a variety of different backgrounds. With an explosive style described by The Times of London as a combination of “sensitivity and strength, combined with grace and muscularity,” the ensemble brings pieces by British choreographers Russell Maliphant and Liam Scarlett to the Ahmanson stage. Former Royal Ballet principals Michael Nunn and William Trevitt created a sensation when they formed The BalletBoyz in 2001, quickly becoming known for their powerful dynamic, and now they’ve moved behind the scenes to recruit, train and produce.
