Maple Leafs come back and beat the Devils
Despite being worn out and without two-thirds of their usual second line, the Toronto Maple Leafs managed to clinch a 4-3 victory against the New Jersey Devils in their fifth game on the road.
William Nylander and Calle Jarnkrok opened the scoring in the second period for the Maple Leafs, followed by Michael Bunting and Auston Matthews who scored late goals less than two minutes apart.
This win was particularly hard-earned as the team had travelled three time zones in the past week. Coach Sheldon Keefe praised the team’s perseverance and Lafferty’s ability to put the other team on their heels with his speed.
Ilya Samsonov’s outstanding performance in goal allowed the Maple Leafs to gather themselves and come out hard in the second period after being outshot by the Devils in the first period.
Despite Ondrej Palat’s late goal and Erik Haula’s second of the game, the Maple Leafs held on to claim victory
