U.K. High court judge, Sir Paul Coleridge has joined church against government plans to legalise same-sex marriages and rather suggested to emphasize “crisis of family breakdown”.

Sir Paul, 63, who sits in the family division, has told the government proposals in favor of gay marriages were the “wrong policy” that would affect only “0.1 per cent of the population” and the ministers are wasting time on the issue.

Sir Paul has said: “While it is gratifying that marriage in any context is centre stage…but it (gay marriage) is a minority issue. We need a more focused position by the Government on the importance of marriage.”

Sir Paul has launched last year an independent charity Marriage Foundation to help married couples. It encourages the couples to “recycle rubbish, not your partner” and to “mend it, not end it”. He has also insisted that charity will not be supporting any gay marriages.

Sir Paul’s comments came after the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, Archbishop Vincent Nichols, had labeled the government’s gay marriage bill as “undemocratic” and a “shambles”.

Archbishop Vincent Nichols claimed that there was no mandate to enforce same-sex marriage laws.
