USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart… It is a known fact that the all-India distribution rights for Balaji's sex-com Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum have been sold for Rs. 21.6 crores to a Nagpur-based distributor. What has wowed the trade and also brought the production house into all the more limelight is the fact that this is the highest theatrical sale for a project of this cast and stature.
"By achieving this sale, it is clear that Ekta would like the film to do a business exceeding Rs. 40 crores though given the size of the film and the tight budget for which it's been made, a net box office of even Rs. 30 crores is outstanding. However, Ekta has seen portions of the film and is confident of its performance," comments a source.
"No one believed Ekta when she said that The Dirty Picture would net more than Rs. 50 crores at the domestic box office. See where the film went," adds the source. "The film ended up being a goldmine for its distributors."
Going by historic data, sequels are known to fare better than their originals. This has been proven with the likes of Golmaal, Munnabhai MBBS and Housefull. Further, as Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum belongs to the sex comedy genre, which hasn't being explored to the fullest, chances are high that it may tread the Delhi Belly route.
Says Tanuj Garg, CEO – Balaji Motion Pictures, "In terms of its madness, KSKHH is way ahead of any comedy to have come out of Bollywood recently. It is even crazier and naughtier than the original."
Come August 2, and we would want to see that on our own.
