MP of the Liberal Party Alby Schultz announced on Tuesday that he will not contest in the upcoming elections and will retire from politics for good.

Schultz has previously served as a government member at the local as well as state level. He represented the electorate of Hume in NSW starting from 1998. The 72 year old politician announced his resignation after spending 25 years in the field. Various journalists and analysts are already making speculations about those who will take his seat and what the future game of politics will be.

Shultz on the other hand commented that he is having mixed feelings about his decision to retire from politics but suggested that now is the time to see some fresh faces in the politics.

He also said, “I believe a new Liberal candidate in Hume will have a fresh approach and a willingness to work hard in Hume. As the longest serving member for Hume since Federation, it is with mixed feelings that I have reached this conclusion. I feel it is time for me to move on despite wanting to continue serving the electorate that I feel so deeply and passionately about. I have and will always be grateful to the people in Hume for the privilege and honor they gave me to represent them at two levels of government.”
