The project specifically targeted marihuana grow operations and marihuana traffickers in the community. Numerous search warrants were executed in the City of Ottawa, as well as in the cities of Brockville and Gatineau and surrounding OPP jurisdictions over the duration of the project.
“The project proved to be very successful, and accordingly has placed a significant dent into the supply of marihuana available in the Ottawa Region,” said Staff Sergeant Mike Laviolette, head of the Ottawa Police Service Drug Section.
During the police operation, police seized in excess of $15,000,000 worth of marihuana, $500,000 in marihuana growing equipment and over $285,000 in currency.
A total of 31 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants were executed resulting in 31 persons charged with 129 Criminal Code and drug offences, and 75 charges were laid under the Ontario Fire Code.
